Problem i have with QDs argument is if you are really a music connoisseur then you can evolve with the music. Its foolish to think that just because you experienced a genres inception means thats the only form of that music you can listen to. None of the other genres are the same. Rock and Roll isnt elvis anymore, same with techno, pop, rap, etc.

Just because I promote old school doesn't mean I don't listen to anything else. I was a HUGE Master P/No Limit person in the late 90's/early 2000's. Had over 120 of his CDs. Bought them all. I like some of TI's material. There are a few that I like that are from this decade. I just prefer OS because it appeals to me better.

I never said or implied that. I brought up the inception angle because it's truly different being at the beginning of something rather than playing catch up with history lessons. Like Elvis and myself. I had to take history lessons to get into his music. I can't imagine what it was like to hear him as a brand new artist.

Im 30, so when i grew up, ill say the FIRST real rap album i heard that i can remember was Dr. Dre The Chronic. I think i was like 12-13. Remember that shit was NOT on the radio. AN yes any 12-13 year old WHITE parents were not letting their kids buy Dr Dre lol.

My first run-in with parents hearing what I was listening to my buddy and I playing ping pong in his garage and listening to "Fuck the Police" and his mom walked out to give us lunch, lolol. She wasn't happy at all.

Also rap is something you shouldnt take so seriously. I have no problems sitting here saying i listen to a TON of garbage on hot 107.9 lol Sometimes its just a good beat or whatever.

I don't take rap seriously. I simply made a comment and it gets taken out of context and everyone wants to argue. If you call "droppin' knowledge" being an elitist, then I guess I am. Just because I'm sharing past experience and music from the old days of hip hop doesn't mean I'm being above anyone. Not sure why you think I'm being "elitist." I'm just sharing what I know.

And personally, grand master flash sucks, so does sugar hill gang. but they started it, doesnt meani have to listen to it :P

This validates the point I was making earlier. Younger folks don't like the old stuff because it was so simple back then. And I never said you had to listen to it. And I don't like Sugar Hill Gang, either. And if you brought up SHG because of that one track, that wasn't them.
